Dernière lettre d'information du programme Life

The Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park rewarded for the remeandering work of the Nanchez!
The Progrès-Event, EDF and the Departmental Federations for the Fishing and Protection of the Aquatic Environments of Ain and Jura, organized on Friday 24 March 2017 an evening in favor of "Fishing and Aquatic Environments".
During the evening, 7 trophies were awarded for the promotion of activities that preserve or improve aquatic environments or initiatives that promote fishing.
The two departmental federations wished to reward the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park, with the "Planning Trophy of the Year" for the Nanchez remeandering project. This project was based on the proposal of Ecogéa design office and carried out by the companies Jura Natura Services and Goyard TP in 2016, in the commune of Nanchez (39).
This trophy is the witness that a functional ecosystem, in which rivers and peatlands interact, is favorable to all the components, aquatic or terrestrial. Sustainable restoration of the environment and its functioning must go through a transitional phase in which the equilibriums will be restored and require a little patience.
Through this choice, the "world of fishing" wished to support the park in these actions in favor of aquatic and wet environments.
The trophy was given by Mr. Romain Sarron of EDF to Gérald Husson, Anne-Sophie Vincent and Pierre Durlet, representing the Park.
A clip briefly presenting the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park was screened at the evening (in french). It was produced by Jean-François Basset and is partly based on images taken by Jean-Philippe Macchioni, during the shooting of the film "Jura, the time of a Mountain", which will be launched in June 2017.

Launch of the restoration work on the Forbonnet peatland in Frasne (25)
The great adventure of restoring the Frasne peatland in the "Creux au Lard" sector, is done after one month and half of work.
The goal : re-wetting the transition marshe affected by drainage and topographic sag.
The following work has been done :
- neutralization of the upstream ditch in the forest raised-bog by its total blockage with peat and 10 wooden panels-570 m ;
- construction of a 90 meters' metal fence covered with peat ;
The neutralization of ditches downstream of the dam, with panels of wood and sawdust, will be done in 2016.
This work was done in partnership with the municipality of Frasne and the NFO. In early summer, the National Forestry Office had already achieved the reopening of the raised-bog for the passage of vehicles. The forest is a communal property and subject to forestry regime. Some sectors, which will be re-flooded post-work, were also thinned out. The loss of earning for the municipality of Frasne will be offset by Life funds.

Hydrological restoration of the "Mont de Voyon" fen (Les Granges-Narboz - 25)
Work objectif
Neutralize the network of more than 1.5 km of drains ( 6-7 parallel ditches), to slow the run-off and recharge the marshe with water and ultimately the ground water.
Work stages
After getting the supplies on site the previous week, the work really took off the 20th of july by grinding willows, a prerequisite to the passage of vehicles. The cleaning of the drains, prior to their neutralisation, began the next tuesday. This cleaning allows to uncover bare peat, which will have more cohesion with the sawdust that is used to fill the drains between each wood panels. 6 small ditches were filled following this technique.
After the completion of this step , the company started to work on the big ditch. 8 fences wood planks have been established.
The work was done in exceptionally dry meteorological conditions that still persist to this day. The impact of work on the water level in the fen is already observable in the field (see photo).
A monitoring on flora and butterflies will measure the long-term biological gain generated by this work.

Reopenings work began in early spring before the birds nesting period. The branches (willow, birch and spruce) are currently exported to be crushed . Skidding is by means of a low pressure chaser (< 150 g / cm²).
From July 20, the hydraulic restoration began. 4 palisades in untreated spruce planks were installed and covert by vegetalised peat. This workwas done by the compagny "Jura Natura Services" between the 20th of july and the 7th of august 2015.

Work at Lamoura lake - Official opening
The new decking around Lake Lamoura was inaugurated on thrusday in the presence of local elected officials, users of the site and project partners.
Commissioned by the the regional natural park of Haut-Jura and the Community of municipalities Station des Rousses , this project was carried out by two companies : Jura Natura Services and FCE.
Differents phases of construction :
Work on setting up a planking around Lake Lamoura started May 6, 2015.
The first step was to dismantle the old decking, which was no longer functional. To do so, the company JNS used a machine with a ground pressure of less than 150 g / cm².
The second step consisted in the installation of piles and gantries used to support the decking. These shoring stakes, which should guarantee the stability of the path are between 4 and 4.50 meters long. They are embedded in layers of peat and lacustrian chalk to reach the underlying clay layer, ensuring good resistance over time. The acacia stakes are planted with an excavator. In order not to damage the ground, the excavator moves on trays to distribute the weight.
The decking planks started to be laid since mid-june. Upon completion of installation, they were cut to the desired size for good alignment of the final realization.
At the same time, the access, sandblasted, were settled. It remains to herbaceous vegetation to resume his place and cover the soil mobilized during the work.
Thanks to the very favorable low water period, the work was done by mid-july.

Reopening work on three peatlands in Labergement-Sainte-Marie (25)
Since October, three peatlands in the municipality of Labergement-Sainte-Marie has been reopened under the authority of the Friends of the Natural reseve Lake Remoray association :
- Champs Nouveaux peatland
- Lhaut fen
- Vurpillières peatland
With a total area of 2.7 hectares, this work consisted on the removal of the timber (including spruce and birch) by logging then grinding. The tree stumps were then pulled and returned.
These operations are intended to halt the closure of peaty habitats and maintain biological connections needed for insect fauna, including butterflies : the Violet Copper (Lycaena helle), Moorland Clouded Yellow (Colias palaeno), the marsh fritillary (Euphydryas aurinia) and the Large Heath (Coenonympha tullia).
On the site of the "Lhaut" fen, work will also help to open up the sector to the public through the future construction of a viewing platform: realization of awareness actions and communication on the LIFE program actions.

Restoration works on a peatland at Frambouhans and Les Ecorces (25)
This fall, the peatland "Sur les Seignes" at Frambouhans and Les Ecorces has benefited from the first functional restoration made in the Jura peatlands Life program. Having been an industrial extraction peat from 1968 to 1984, the site was highly degraded: extraction pits where the typical peatland vegetation had difficulty to resettle, drying up areas, asphalt platform built on a part of the bog, etc.
In 2003, a first phase of work carried out by the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels on a part of the site had allowed a resumption of productive vegetation peat where the soil was left bare for 20 years. Further work has therefore been made under the Life program. The goal is to keep an optimal quantity of water for the peatland functioning by creating lockers/tanks. These "individual basins", once in water, allow the resumption of suitable vegetation. Several constructions have been made on these 0.5 hectares of peatland:
- creation of 2 peat barricades (17 m in total) and 3 Wooden fences (135 m in total);
- Cutting birches on 2000 m²;
- stripping of deteriorated peat;
- creating puddles.
The work was carried out from October 13 to December 3, 2014 by ecological engineering company Jura Natura Services based in Labergement-Sainte-Marie (25), under the project management of the Conservatoire d’espaces naturels and for an amount of € 50,274.
The removal of the asphalt platform will be made at the end of Life program, once all the work on the local peatlands has been completed.
